Dr. Shainool Jiwa, a specialist in Fatimid History, will discuss the leadership of Imam Al Mu’izz and examine various facets of Fatimid authority, leadership and inclusive governance.
Among the hallmarks of the Fatimids, who reigned form 909 to 1071, was a model of leadership and governance which they espoused, and its durability over two and a half centuries, in lands that were historically inhabited by diverse confessional communities, which included Muslims, Christians, Jews and other communities.

Imam Al-Mu’izz, founder of the city of Cairo, transformed the emergent Fatimid state from a regional power of limited influence to an impressive Mediterranean empire whose authority extended from the shores of the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean.
His vision and dynamism contributed to the high watermark of Fatimid success in establishing a Shi’i empire, which contributed to the cultural and intellectual efflorescence of the Muslim world.
