The Qasida Gist – By Karim Maherali
This is a Qasida composed in Arabic by ‘Ali Qasim and it is part of the historical tradition of the Syrian Jamat. It is now being shared by the global Jamat. It is an expression of devotion to the Imam of the time par excellence in the context of the relationship between a murid and the Mursheed in an esoteric tradition. The Imam is at once, the goal, purpose and the destination and the means of attaining the destination. In this respect he is the source of guidance, strength and protection in adversity and hence is the object of devotion and prayer. Success in life is determined in terms of attaining perfection of love and security in the Imam, the station from which one does not fall or return. All the treasures comprising the knowledge of inner mysteries and secrets of life are unravelled in the glorious homecoming of the soul..
It also provides the theological and historical basis of his authority and nobility being the direct descendant of the legatees of the Prophets who were the Imams.
Holy Qur’an:
“Lo, Allah preferred Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of Imran above all creatures. They were descendants one of another.” (Holy Qur’an, 3:33-34)

O my Imam, O my Imam
You are my Treasure and my Purpose
You are the Light in my heart

You are my ardent love and my passion

Which is the highest position

O the legatee of the Prophets
From the descent of the legatees

O my Refuge from suffering and torment
And my strength in my youth.
