Canadian Ismaili Artists Step Forward to Support @AKDN Global Pandemic Relief Fund

In these unprecedented times, agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) are pulling together to find creative and effective solutions to sustain the important work that needs to be done to improve the quality of human life. Working together, several AKDN agencies such as the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS), the Aga Khan University (AKU) and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) are already treating patients, testing suspected cases, and advising national authorities on their responses and preparedness. A cross-AKDN task force is planning how best to harness its institutions and activities to amplify its responses in order to address the various effects of this pandemic on public health, economic well-being, and social cohesion.

To help support these efforts, the agencies and affiliates of the Aga Khan Development Network, including Focus Humanitarian Assistance, have launched the Global Pandemic Relief Fund. The Fund has been established to respond to the outpouring of generosity from our supporters and creates a one-stop portal to support this critical work across all AKDN agencies, including Focus Humanitarian Assistance, our emergency response agency.

To raise awareness for Aga Khan Development Network’s Global relief fund, various Ismaili artists from Canada are stepping forward to lend their support by organizing “virtual” musical events. These artists are using their respective social media platforms to help support this very worthy cause.

We congratulate these artists for stepping up in this time of great need. You are living example of what His Highness the Aga Khan said in his speech at the conference of Indigenous Philanthropy, Islamabad, Pakistan (17 October 2000):

Philanthropy and charitable giving hold a very central place in the teachings of the Holy Quran, the writings of Islamic thinkers, and the history of Muslims in all parts and cultures of the Islamic World, including here on the sub-continent. Islam’s clear and explicit injunction is to share resources beyond one’s reasonable commitments, and to care for those in need.
