Farhan Devji saw the smiles, the jokes, the side of Alphonso Davies few outside the Vancouver Whitecaps knew existed. The-then team club reporter watched the teenage Davies mature and grow, taking the first few steps of an evolution that has seen him transform into one of the world’s top soccer players.

But Devji didn’t know, didn’t fully grasp the potential richness of Davies’ story until he traveled to the player’s hometown of Edmonton in 2017 to film a mini-documentary on him becoming a Canadian citizen for the Whitecaps.

That trip to the City of Champions planted a seed in Devji’s mind, one that eventually pushed him to leave the club he’d been with for eight years, to pursue his own dream, writing his own book.

On May 2, Alphonso Davies: A New Hope, will officially hit bookstores and online booksellers.
