Artistic portraits and wood carvings by Khalil Najmi

Khalil Najmi is a medallion portrait artist from Pakistan who carves high finishing portraits in Bas-relief; he recently painted a portrait of His Highness the Aga Khan. His hand carved portraits on wood serve as patterns for coins and medals.

As a young boy in the 1960s, Khalil used to draw in his sketch book regularly. His first attempt to sketch a portrait was inspired by the handsome photo of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan in Time Life magazine. Subsequently, in the 1980s, Khalil developed the skills to hand carve relief portraits on wood.

In 2010, he carved a portrait of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan; from this portrait, he produced a medallion on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of the Aga Khan’s Imamat.
