Born in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, Shaheena Karim was raised in Portugal.
Shaheena comes from a family of singers. She is the granddaughter of Late Mussa Noormahomed, an accomplished singer of his time. She started stage singing at the age of 15.
In early 90s, Shaheena released her first professional album in UK which became a blockbuster. Shaheena has released several albums in UK in punjabi and hindi.
Shaheena sings in several languages including Gujrati, Hindi, Punjabi and Swahili.
In 1998, Shaheena released her album “Mawla Ke Geet” which was released to commemorate Mawlana Hazar Imam’s visit to Lisbon, Portugal. Two songs from this album became very popular: “Mara haira na moti na haar” and “Mere mawla aae mere angane”.
In 2014, Shaheena founded the Lisbon Ismaili Band. The band has performed in all festivities of the Ismaili community in Portugal and Spain. The band specializes in singing raas, garba, mehfil and devotional songs.
