Vogue | Princess Salwa Aga Khan following her marriage to Prince Rahim – is expecting her first child

KENDRA SPEARS – now known as Princess Salwa Aga Khan following her marriage to Prince Rahim – is expecting her first child. The model’s father-in-law Mawlana Hazar Imam – also known as His Highness Aga Khan IV – announced the news on the official webiste for Nizari Ismailism of which he is Imam.

“Expressing his greatest happiness, Mawlana Hazar Imam informed the Jamat today that Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa are expecting their first child. Around the world, Ismailis are gathering in Jamatkhanas to celebrate the happy news,” read the statement. “Aitmadi Mahmoud Eboo, Chairman of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum, has submitted a message of congratulations to Mawlana Hazar Imam and the entire Imamat family, and also conveyed warmest wishes to Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa on this very happy occasion.”

The couple married last year in a traditional Muslim ceremony – attended by just family and close friends – at Château de Bellerive, on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland.

Prince Rahim is an executive Director of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) – the economic development arm of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). A graduate of Brown University, Rhode Island, USA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Comparative Literature awarded in 1996, Prince Rahim received his secondary education at Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts. In 2006, Prince Rahim completed an executive development programme in Management and Administration at the University of Navarra IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. Prince Rahim travels regularly to Asia and Africa to oversee the industrial plants, hotel properties and financial institutions, including microfinance programmes, of the Aga Khan Development Network.

Princess Salwa:

Princess Salwa (Kendra Spears) holds a BA in sociology from the University of Washington in her native Seattle. She has a strong interest in arts and architecture and has had a highly successful career as a model, working with many of the most prestigious fashion houses.
