Scarborough Health Network (SHN): A Thank You Note for Nanji Family Foundation for Their Incredible Generosity

Ismailimail is absolutely delighted to share this wonderful note received from Scarborough Health Network (SHN) thanking Nanji Family Foundation for their generous support towards Covid-19 relief efforts.

This matching donation pledge of $100,000 (Canadian) received by Scarborough Health Network, is part of $1.6 million in total donated by Nanji Family Foundation which was split evenly by 16 hospitals throughout Canada.

This incredible gesture by Nanji Family Foundation is a living proof of what His Highness the Aga Khan said in his speech at the conference of Indigenous Philanthropy, Islamabad, Pakistan (17 October 2000)

Philanthropy and charitable giving hold a very central place in the teachings of the Holy Quran, the writings of Islamic thinkers, and the history of Muslims in all parts and cultures of the Islamic World, including here on the sub-continent. Islam’s clear and explicit injunction is to share resources beyond one’s reasonable commitments, and to care for those in need.

Note from Scarborough Health Network (SHN):

As Scarborough Health Network (SHN) and the community of Scarborough continue to navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to highlight the incredible support we’ve received from many donors to help address urgent equipment needs at our hospitals.

As SHN began fundraising for our COVID-19 relief efforts several months ago, we received a generous matching pledge of $100,000 from the Nanji Family Foundation. The gift supported our COVID-19 Emergency Fund, which was established to help purchase important and urgently needed medical equipment such as ventilators, vital signs monitors and personal protective equipment.

“We feel it is more important than ever for us to support the hospitals and their communities during a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic,” shared Pyarali G. Nanji. “We hope our $100,000 pledge to SHN inspires the Scarborough community to donate and provide the health care workers risking their lives every day with sufficient equipment and resources.”

The Nanji Foundation’s matching gift inspired more than 540 online donors to give back as well, allowing SHN to achieve the match and generate more than $200,000 in impact in only one week’s time.

“We are thankful for the many donors from the Scarborough community and beyond that are continuing to come forward in support for our outstanding physicians, nurses, clinical staff and other frontline workers,” shared Alicia Vandermeer, President & CEO, SHN Foundation.

Thanks to the leading support of the Nanji Family Foundation and many others, our team at SHN is proud to have raised more than $1.8 million to date towards our COVID-19 Emergency Fund for our hospitals.

  1. The fundamental tradition of donating in kind and otherwise inculcated in the Ismailis has continued no matter in which country we reside and we all reap the benefits of it
in many ways. Not all of us are able to go to this extend but most Ismailis contribute to the best of their abilities and it is our joint efforts that counts – ISMAILIS AS ONE JAMAT . None the less congratulations to Nanji family on this remarkable generosity. May Mowla bless the family and give them courage to continue on this path. Ameen
