GSMC’s Giving Nature a Voice documentary on Lake Turkana, dubbed ‘Water to Dust,’ recently won Best East African Documentary at the third edition of the 2017 Mashariki African Film Festival in Kigali, Rwanda. The documentary exposes the danger posed by Ethiopia’s hydropower and irrigation scheme on the River Omo, which provides 90% of Lake Turkana’s fresh water. The documentary seeks to find out how the project will affect hundreds of thousands of Kenyans who live close to Lake Turkana’s shore, especially the fishermen who depend on it for their livelihood.
