BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Three billion people in the world survive on less than $3 a day.
That’s why hundreds of people were at Railroad Park Sunday morning, raising awareness and money for poverty stricken communities in Asia and Africa.
The Aga Khan Foundation’s goal was to raise about $350,000 dollars at this event.
That money will be used for health services, education, and rural development in some of the world’s poorest areas.
The Foundation’s goal is not to just give a man a fish, but rather teach him how to fish.
“We don’t just give out handouts. We actually provide a helping hand. So we want these communities to come out of poverty in a dignified way so that they can feel confident that they can actually change their lives,” Irfan Merchant said.
