GOVERNOR General David Johnston announced on Friday 95 new appointments to the Order of Canada. The new appointees included three Companions (C.C.), 13 Officers (O.C.) and 79 Members (C.M.).
Dr. Shaf Keshavjee was appointed Officer to the Order of Canada for innovations in thoracic surgery and that have improved lung transplants worldwide.
“I’m humbled by this. Studying the best outcomes for patients is what I have spent a good part of my life doing. The first lung transplant was done at Toronto General Hospital (in 1983). That is where I trained and I have worked to make it safer. We have made things possible that weren’t before.”University Health Network surgeon-in-chief Dr. Shaf Keshavjee.
Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
