OTTAWA – The Aga Khan, Ismaili Muslim spiritual leader, has been invited to make a historic address to the Canadian parliament, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Friday.
The Aga Khan has already been honoured with the Order of Canada, honorary citizenship of Canada and has been bestowed with six degrees by five Canadian universities for his contribution to pluralism and international development.
The Aga Khan is easily the most recognized face of moderate Islam around the world and has been honoured with the highest national awards numbering well over two dozen from an equal number of countries around the globe, along with honorary degrees from 20 world-class educational institutions, five of them Canadian, including McGill, McMaster, Toronto, Ottawa and Alberta.
