AJAX — An Ajax dentist is on her way to Africa to share her skills at a clinic in Tanzania.
Dr. Shelina Dhanji is a specialist in pediatric dentistry and owns the Dentistry 4 Kids clinic in Pickering Village. She was also born in East Africa and came to Canada when she was eight years old.
“I came to Canada as a refugee from Uganda, so this hits home to me because I’m going home to do this type of work,” she said.
Dr. Dhanji, a Unionville resident, is part of the Abulcasis Dental Alliance, a national organization made up of Ismaili dental professionals. Two other dentists and a hygienist from the organization will be travelling with her and spending two weeks at a clinic in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city. The opportunity to go to Africa came up just a week before her May 14 departure.

I would very much like to see a follow up on Dr. Shelina Dhanji’s visit to Africa. Pediatric dentistry is so important to children and any help to these children could help change their lives.
