Subah-e-nau (SN) (www.greenpakistan.org) and The Monthly Subh-e-Nau have been working on raising awareness, advising policy and conducting practical programmes for improving the environment and public health in the country for more than a decade now.
For improving tree cover in the country, SN has planted over 50,000 trees with a survival rate of over 80 per cent. Some of the projects SN is actively involved in include Legislation for Organ Transplantation, Consumer Protection Law, and the Karachi University City Forest Project.
From the hottest year in 2005 to disasters such as the Tsunami and South Asian Earthquake in the last few years, global warming is making its effects felt, claiming a heavy toll on life and livelihood of the people. This Oscar winning movie is considered an “eye opener” for people from all walks of life. With newly emerging diseases and natural disasters predicted to result in millions of “environmental refugees,” this movie holds special significance for the development community including medical and allied sciences.

It is very heartening that AKU is taking steps to spread awareness about green issues and the importance of taking steps to REDUCE RE-USE AND RECYCLE and other measures, perhaps using WINDPOWER AND SOLAR POWER more effectively.
