In the afternoon on Monday, Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Hyderabad and was welcomed by Mohammad Azharuddin, Telangana’s Minister for Public Enterprises and Minority Welfare; Mohammad Faheemuddin Qureshi, Vice Chairman & President of Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions; several other state officials and a delegation of Jamati leaders. Following his arrival, Hazar Imam visited the Honourable Governor of Telangana, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla.

Following his arrival, Hazar Imam visited the Honourable Governor of Telangana, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla.Since taking office earlier this year, Governor Shukla has promoted civic action such as blood donation and voluntary service, speaking at World Red Cross Day and World Thalassemia Day events organised by the Indian Red Cross Society.

Mawlana Hazar Imam met with the Honourable Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri Anumula Revanth Reddy. Hazar Imam and the Chief Minister discussed several areas for continued collaboration in Telangana, as the Aga Khan Development Network’s activities continue to expand in the state.
“I greatly value the cooperation that has enabled us to contribute to improving the quality of life and creating opportunities for people in Telangana,” Hazar Imam said. “The experience of our partnership across areas such as cultural heritage, education, healthcare and community development provides a strong foundation for continuing to strengthen this relationship and exploring further areas of collaboration in support of shared development priorities.”
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture’s work in the state, as well as AKDN’s contribution to education, especially through the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad.
Mawlana Hazar Imam graced the Southern India Jamat with a didar in Hyderabad, before departing the city, bringing a close to his seven-day visit to India.
During his visit to India, Mawlana Hazar Imam met with the President, Vice President, and Prime Minister of India as well as central and state government officials; while the Jamat was blessed with six didars across three cities and an institutional reception.
The visit reaffirmed the depth of the 120-year relationship between the Ismaili Imamat and India. Institutions of the Ismaili Imamat have been present in India since the 19th century, while AKDN’s development work dates to 1905, when the first Aga Khan school was established in Mundra, Gujarat. Over the decades, this engagement has expanded across education, health, rural livelihoods, economic inclusion, habitat, culture, heritage and climate resilience. (AKDN).
