DeKalb County, Georgia, USA — On Saturday, January 15, 2022, DeKalb County commemorated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King (MLK), Jr by distributing thousands of food boxes and 10,000 in-home COVID-19 rapid test kits to residents at several locations around the county.
During the celebration held at The Gallery (South, DeKalb), Dr. Gulshan Harjee, the CMO of Clarkston Community Health Center, was presented with the Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award by DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond. Dr. Saeed Raees, Clarkston Community Health Center CEO & co- founder, was also presented with the Mosby Award. Other recipients of the Award were Dr. Sandra Elizabeth Ford, former Director of the Dekalb County Board of Health, presently serving in Washington, DC as Special Assistant to the President for Public Health and Science; and Jeff Taylor, CEO of MedCura Health.

Dr. Harjee’s late father Mr. Sadru Harjee was an ardent fan of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and during his lifetime he would ensure that he listened to all of MLK’s speeches. Ultimately, as MLK said “Service and Sacrifice are two great virtues.”
Dr. Harjee has also just been named for the second time amongst 500 most powerful leaders in Atlanta, and Emory University will present to her their impact award of positive change in March 2022 – a deserved recognition for which we congratulate her and convey our best wishes.
