Statement by Minister Joly on Imamat Day

OTTAWA, ONTARIO —  July 11, 2016 – I join today with Ismailis in Canada and around the world to celebrate Imamat Day, the anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan as the 49th Imam of Ismaili Shiite Muslims in 1957.

I was honoured to meet Prince Karim Aga Khan on May 17 during his visit to Canada. In addition to being a spiritual leader, His Highness is recognized worldwide for his efforts to promote humanitarian assistance and development at the international level. We share the same basic values of solidarity and mutual assistance.Minister for Canadian Heritage, Mélanie Joly

On the occasion of Imamat Day, I would like to offer my best wishes to His Highness, as well as to Canada’s Ismaili community.

Khushiali Mubarak!
