June 6, 2015: Calgary, Kitchener-Waterloo, London will join cities across Canada in the 31st World Partnership Walk to increase awareness and raise funds to help fight global poverty. The Walk will take place Sunday, June 7th.
An initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada, the Walk attracts tens of thousands of Canadians united in a common effort to bring hope and renewal to poor communities living in Asia and Africa. Since its start 31 years ago, the Walk has raised almost $90 million for international development programs and initiatives, making it the largest and most successful event of its kind in Canada.
Last year nearly 40,000 Canadians came together to raise more than $7 million in Calgary, Edmonton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Ottawa, Montreal, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria.
“For 31 years, our participants, volunteers and donors have made a significant contribution to the fight against poverty,”
“The Walk is a tangible way for Canadians to create opportunities for the poor of the world to reach their full potential as human beings and to live in hope and dignity.”
…said Dr. Noor-Amin Noorani, Convenor for the World Partnership Walk in London.
The World Partnership Walk provides an experience that is both meaningful and fun for the whole family through activities that inform, educate, celebrate and entertain. Activities include our Global Village exhibition designed for those eager to find out more about international development and health in the developing world. Under a colourful dome, large interactive experiences connect visitors to people in diverse regions, to program workers and volunteers, and to each other.
