April 14 2015: Educationists in West Nile region have received training in education leadership and management, courtesy of the Aga Khan University.
Twenty seven people, including inspectors of schools, district education officers, head teachers, college tutors and teachers were trained. The six-month intensive training, which ended at the weekend, has been taking place at St John Bosco PTC Lodonga in Yumbe District under Strengthening Education Systems in East Africa programme aimed at developing skills on leadership education management.
Dr Geoff Tenant, the head of teaching programme at the Aga Khan University Institute of Educational Development East Africa, said it is important to support and develop education so that learning becomes fun and made more interesting.
The beneficiaries commended the Aga Khan University for the training which they said will improve their professionalism. Ms Joyce Lawino, a tutor at Paidha PTC in Zombo District, said the course was richer than the three years’ experience got at university. “This will assist us to become more proactive in schools and provide students with new skills and eventually improve their performance,” she said.
