Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam keen to deal with cancers

Second phase of the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam expansionDar es Salaam. The Aga Khan has charted plans aimed at improving its ability to check the spread of cancers among Tanzanians. One such of strategies is increasing diagnostic camps.

That was said yesterday by the hospital director, Dr Mustapha Bapumia, in a meeting which brought together health experts from public and private sectors to discuss ways of reducing the spread of the disease.

The move by Aga Khan Hospital comes at a time when records show that 44,000 new patients are diagnosed with cancers each year in the country and most of them do not have access to curative services.

He said the situation was worsening as 10 per cent of every 200 people screened at the hospital were found with cancer symptoms.
