The Aga Khan’s eldest son Prince Rahim and his wife Princess Salwa (Kendra Salwa Spears) are expecting their first child, the spiritual leader of the global Shia Ismaili Muslim community announced Friday.

“Expressing his greatest happiness, Mawlana Hazar Imam informed the Jamat (community) today that Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa are expecting their first child,” said a statement on the Ismail.org. “Around the world, Ismailis are gathering in Jamatkhanas (mosques) to celebrate the happy news.”

Prince Rahim, involved in the poverty reduction efforts of the Aga Khan Development Network — one of the largest private agencies fostering social, cultural and economic development in Asia, Africa and the Middle East — married Seattle fashion model Kendra Spears on 31 August last year in Geneva, Switzerland.

Aitmadi Mahmoud Eboo, Chairman of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum (LIF), sent a message of congratulations to the entire family on the happy occasion.
