Tabreek Somani received the Bronze Award in the 2014 Commonwealth Essay Competition organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS). Tabreek was the only participant from Kyrgyzstan to receive the Award. Tabreek was studying at the QSI International School of Bishkek and have recently joined the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa in grade 8.
The 2014 Commonwealth Essay Competition received more than 9,500 entries from over 500 schools in 44 Commonwealth countries and territories. Both the Senior and the Junior judging panels were very impressed by the quality of writing and commended the issues and topics covered via the theme, ‘Team Commonwealth’. Over 2,000 entries won Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards. In Junior Category (Under 14s), 196 participants received Gold Award, 421 received Silver Award, 702 received Bronze Award and the rest of the participants received Certificate of Participation.
Tabreek Somani (age: 12 years) and Faizaan Somani (age: 9 years) also participated in the competition from Kyrgyzstan. Faizaan’s entry was: ‘What Makes a Good Team? What Makes a Good Team Player?’ and Tabreek’s entry was ‘You’re one of us now’. Faizaan Somani received the Certificate of Participation and Tabreek’s entry was selected for the Bronze Award.

It endeavours to promote literacy, expression and creativity among young people by celebrating excellence and imagination.
