This duo earlier featured in Ismailimail, has a special connection with Sufi, Qawali and devotional singing as well as Bollywood and Fusion genre of Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi poetry. Danyal Rawjani a 4th year political science student at University of Ottawa and Saba Rawjani Grade 12 student at Canterbury High School in Ottawa are composing and singing Sufi and devotional music for last 10 years. They both are trained in Indian classical music and now on the road to invent fusion of Bollywood and Hollywood. They understand that as Indian music is based on specific Raga’s so the Western music is also based on certain discipline of music and at some point some of the pieces from both trends are intertwined. Besides performing for fun they have recently performed for several charity and community events and specially on several occasions for Ottawa Jamat on various khushalis and most recently for Ottawa Jamati Picnic.
Danyal and Saba feel their pride and service to entertain the seniors of jamat as they believe that this segment of the jamat has minimum reach to the sources of entertainment as they are less mobile and more dependent. Therefore they are always available to entertain the elders of Ottawa and visiting elderly from other regions of Ontario and Canada.
Recently they sung a song for Canada Pakistan Association which can be watched at following link.
This song “Bismillah” is composed by the Ismaili duo of Bollywood, Salim and Sulaiman. That pair of sibling had an opportunity to sing this song in the presence of Mowlana Hazar Imam during the Institutional Dinner in India.
Saba was also chosen by Prime Minister Harper’s office to sing O’Canada in the presence of Mowlana Hazar Imam at the Massey Hall in Toronto in late February 2014.
