Global Studies Academy Students take part in Annual Partnership WalkFORT BEND ISD – To support the efforts of the Aga Khan Foundation USA in reducing global poverty, Clements High School Global Studies Academy (GSA) students took part in a recent Houston Partnership Walk in Hermann Square, recruiting a team of 180 students and parents.

The walk was held to raise awareness about global poverty and bridge Americans’ spirit of generosity by reaching out to uplift people living in extreme poverty. In addition to Houston, the walk took place in nine other major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Birmingham, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Memphis, Orlando, San Antonio and San Francisco.

Karim Farishta served as the Partnership Walk student liaison for Clements. Not only did he recruit students to take part in the walk, he also encouraged volunteers to help with the event’s Kid Zone, recycling booth, and registration table. Clements students also performed a cultural Japanese dance at the event.

Farishta’s efforts in coordinating his school’s team earned him the “Ambassador of the Year” award, which was presented to him by Sharron Melton, TV reporter and co-anchor of ABC 13’s morning show; and Amy Mitchell, City of Sugar Land Council Member. This was the second year he has been recognized for his efforts. Clements also received the “Largest Outreach Team Partnership Walk 2012” award for having the largest number of registered walkers on any team in the nation. Given their participation this year, Clements’ GSA students contributed more than $1,000 to support the Aga Khan Foundation.
