Tabreek Somani received “Excellence in Science Award” for demonstrating excellence in scientific process during the QSI International School of Bishkek Science Fair 2011. Her experiment was to sort the acidity or basicity (alkaline nature) of the selected soil samples. She conducted her experiment through litmus paper on six soil samples collected from different places in Bishkek.
Tabreek is studying at QSI International School of Bishkek in grade 5 (10 year olds). She joined the QSI International School in 2010 after migrating to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. She completed her education up to grade 3 from Foundation Public School in Karachi, Pakistan. During academic year 2010-11, Tabreek also won the Spelling Bee contest for elementary level and received Eight Awards under different categories. She also represented her class in STUCO (Student Council at the QSI Bishkek) during 2010-11.
For Science Fair 2011, the students were divided into two categories i.e. Elementary and Secondary. Under Elementary Section (5 year olds to 10 year olds) a total of 19 projects were presented on 11 October 2011. Thirty-one students from 8 year olds to 10 year olds presented 16 projects in addition to three class projects, one each from 5, 6 and 7 year olds. Nine projects were selected for the Excellence of Science Award. Under Secondary Section (11 year olds and above) a total of 13 projects were presented on 12 October 2011. Four projects were selected for the Excellence of Science Award.
