Danbury’s Rawji was father’s “everything” – NewsTimes

Danbury's Rawji was father's "everything" - NewsTimesDANBURY — Mixed in with the collection of jewelry on Rabia Rawji’s neck, there’s a gold necklace — one that reads “HOPE” in all caps — dangling an inch or so below the others. Rawji reaches towards her chest, separates it from the others and sticks it out: “This was his,” she says.

She wore it for her June 27 graduation ceremony from Danbury High, for her recent summer league basketball game and for the burial of her father, Nawroz Rawji, the original owner of the “Hope” necklace.

Nawroz, inflicted with nothing more than a respiratory infection, unexpectedly passed away the night before Father’s Day, which, for the past 10 years, has been the most important holiday in the Rawji family.

“It’s Father’s Day and Mother’s Day,” Rabia says. “We always spent them together.”

  2. As a class mate of Nawroz at Mzizima Secondary School in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, we are so very proud of and inspired by him. He was not just a wonderful, loving dad but also a great and generous friend. I remember he had such a sense of humour, always smiling. Rabia he was always so proud of you; always sharing your accomplishments with his fellow Mzizimians! It seems like we know you. May Allah grant you the strength to bear this great loss and we “hope” you soar to the top and may all your dreams be fulfilled. Lastly we pray, may his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.
