Grand Challenges Canada: Vote for Zahra Punja's Project benefiting Aga Khan UniversityIn the 2008 Federal Budget the Government of Canada announced the creation of the Development Innovation Fund (DIF) to “support the best minds in the world as they search for breakthroughs in global health and other areas that have the potential to bring about enduring changes in the lives of the millions of people in poor countries.” The Government of Canada is committing $225 million over five years to the Development Innovation Fund. The Development Innovation Fund will be delivered by Grand Challenges Canada.

Grand Challenges Canada: Vote for Zahra Punja's Project benefiting Aga Khan UniversityZahra Punja holds PhD in Education, and has applied for Grand Challenges Canada grant with the Aga Khan University Hospitals in East Africa to do a medical and health professional education project involving mobile phones and Moodle courseware. This is a very important and critical project to decrease medical errors and enhance patient care and safety. A winning entry earns $100,000 for Phase 1 of the competition and the project enters a higher competition of $1,000,000 for Phase 2. The Aga Khan University Medical School and its hospital in East Africa and in Central Asia will be the recipients of this funding, and all the money will be used to produce tangible and useful knowledge using evidence-based approaches to improve health care delivery and patient care practices.
