Bhubaneswar: Shairose Mawji has taken over as the Chief of the UNICEF office in Orissa. With a long and distinguished career in the UNICEF, her contribution and work would be valuable for the development of the State. She previously served as the chief of field operations in the UNICEF Bangladesh Country Office. As project officer in Kabul and Kandahar in Afghanistan, she earned public accolades.
Prior to joining the UNICEF, Mawji worked with the International Rescue Committee, an NGO in East Africa. She also worked in the health sector in Canada and England. She holds a Masters degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. A Canadian national, she is accompanied by her four-year-old twin daughters.
Mawji met top officials of the State Government on Thursday and reiterated UNICEF’s commitment towards ensuring rights of the children. UNICEF Education Officer Amarjit Jena and Programme Manager Job Zachariah also attended the meetings. Chief Secretary Tarun Kanti Mishra apprised about various innovative programmes that need to be undertaken by UNICEF. Mawji also held discussions with Principal Secretary School and Mass Education Vandana Kumari Jena.
