The Ugandan based team employed by Care for Uganda are working extremely well together with a good team spirit. A boost to moral was received when the provision of office space in Kampala was kindly donated by Mr. Thobani, Managing Director of the Fourways group of companies and Vice-chair of Diamond Trust Bank. Mr. Thobani who is also the Minister for Planning and Development with the Buganda kingdom, is a firm supporter of Care for Uganda and provides advice to Care for Uganda whenever required.
Eleven years ago, Ugandans witnessed the terror of the Rwandan Genocide in a very direct way, even though the killings took place hundreds of miles away in neighbouring Rwanda, where one million people were killed in 100 days.
The bodies kept coming. Soon it was clear that they were floating from Rwanda via River Kagera. Amid the tragic scenes, many of the bodies had marks of stabbing, hacking or strangulation.
At first they were buried in shallow, makeshift graves, but then a plot of land for a mass burial was donated by the Managing Director of Four Ways Group of Companies, Mohamood Thobani.
