Lecturer to address suicide bombing

EUGENE, Ore.—(April 5, 2007)—Faisal Devji, author of “Landscapes of the Jihad: Militancy, Morality, Modernity,” will talk about suicide bombing during a free public lecture at the University of Oregon, Friday, April 13.

The talk, “Dying on Principle: The Claims and Renunciations of Suicide Bombing,” will begin at 4 p.m., in Room 211, Lillis Business Complex, 955 E. 13th Ave.

Devji teaches history at the New School for Social Research, a private institution in New York City. He has held faculty positions at Yale University and at the University of Chicago, where he received his doctorate in intellectual history.

He was a junior fellow at the Society of Fellows at Harvard University and head of graduate studies at the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London, where he directed post-graduate courses on the Near East and Central Asia.
