Philosophy behind Ismailimail (IM)

The symbol of IM uses ‘o’ or “vaav”. ‘O’ comes from the words like Muhammad or Ali in Calligraphy and shows the subject or the doer of an action and ‘vaav’ is ‘and’ which shows connection. It is to depict “I’m” I am. I am a proud Ismaili and that I am strong and confident in my faith and my community to be identified as an Ismaili Muslim.

The logo was exclusively designed by one of our readers, an architect by profession. The logo features Fatimid Imam-Caliph Nizar’s Gold Dinar depicting the major historical event. The English letters “I” and “M” portray the contemporary existence of Ismailis, having a personal impact in the world(s)—spiritual and material.

Community

The Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, generally known as the Ismailis, belong to the Shia branch of Islam. The Shia form one of the two major branches of Islam, the Sunni being the other. The Ismailis live in over 25 different countries, mainly in Central and South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as in Europe, North America, and Australia.

Guide

His Highness Rahim Al-Husseini Aga Khan V became Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims on February 4, 2025, succeeding his father, Prince Karim Al-Husseini Aga Khan. He is the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims and a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through his cousin and son-in-law, Ali, the first Imam, and his wife Fatima, the Prophet’s daughter.

Social Conscience

His Highness Rahim Al-Husseini Aga Khan fulfills part of his hereditary responsibilities as Imam (spiritual leader) of the Ismaili Muslims through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKDN is therefore a contemporary endeavor of the Ismaili Imamat to realize the social conscience of Islam through institutional action. The overall goal of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is the improvement of Quality of Life (QoL) in the areas where its member institutions work.

From reading the comments left by various people (and reading such comments has become one of the highlights of my day) it seems to me that this blog has been able to bring an amazing diversity of people together. Not only are there Ismailis from every region of the world, there are other Muslims as well as non-Muslims reading the blog and commenting on the posts. I’ve read messages from diplomats, academics, and an assortment of regular folk. In this sense, this blog represents to me an amazing example of civil society – where all types of people meet (some who may not have otherwise known each other) and engage in a positive way on an equal playing field.

  39. I was on vacation in China when your site reached the 200,000 mark. Belated heartiest congratulations! Its interesting but I did have access to a computer in Beijing, Shanghai as well as the Silk Road cities of Urumqi, Kashgar, Turpan, Dunhuang and Xian but was not allowed access to the Ismaili Mail website. I did see all your new postings because they are mailed to my gmail account but could not get access to the actual website. Perhaps(and this is just a guess) the pointy-headed Attila the Han bureaucrats at Communist Party Central in Beijing have cut off access to your site because it is so popular and might give some undesirable ideas to Muslims in China. Nevertheless it was a fabulous visit and I will be blogging extensively about our trip on my blogsite(my wife kept a very detailed daily diary). Cheers.

Google’s blogspot has been banned in Pakistan for sometime as well. Seems these governments are quick in blocking the undesirable contents and there seems to be nothing much people can do about it. But people always find the ways to get around and getting blog contents via email is one easy way.

  42. Dear SHer,

Thank you for your kind words and suggestions.

Allow me to highlight few of the many ways to navigate this website.

Aside from the front page, which contains 15 recently made postings, you have …

Category section – where each one of the postings made at the blog have been appropriately tagged for easy find.

Then we have Popular Categories highlighted, all based on the popularity of subjects.

The Search Box at the very top also helps visitors search any topics (various other external search engines are also indexing this website).

The Random Search is one fascinating way to find postings.

Post of the Week comes in handy for critical and important posts from the past.

Our monthly Newsletters which contains summary of postings made in previous months may also be helpful to you in navigating the stories. These newsletters contains live links with summary of the stories posted at the blog.

And above all, if you scroll down the front page, you will see a link to Older Posts. With this link, you can browse all 916 posts made so far.

Hope this helps. Since this blog is a work-in-progress, we’re always open for more suggestions.

    Kind Regards.

I am humbly thankful to all the individuals who consistently support this site by submitting stories to be shared, by visiting every day to seek new stories, and by engaging themselves via comments. It is due to the work of many people (who wish to remain anonymous) that this site is growing in popularity and contents. I would also like to share another milestone for this blog, we are few stories short of reaching 1000 posts since late last October.
All credit for the popularity of this site goes to the world wide Ismaili Community, the inspiring achievers and the great work of His Highness The Aga Khan via his various institutions and efforts.
