Saskatchewan Multicultural Leadership Award recognizes the outstanding contributions to multiculturalism in Saskatchewan (formerly known as the Betty Szuchewycz Award). Priority is given to the person who has demonstrated work and its impact in all five streams of multicultural work, including cultural continuity, celebration of diversity, anti-racism, intercultural connections, and integration. Recipients are people who champion (promote, share, live…) multicultural values. Saskatchewan communities must be the primary focus of the nominee’s activities.

Dr Shela Hirani has created a career that has made significant impacts in academic and public aspects of health. By aligning her professional work with equity, diversity and inclusion. Her research excellence has attracted many competitive grants and multiple awards in Canada and beyond. Her focus on vulnerable immigrants and refugee women shines a light through the anti-racist lens on change needed in healthcare policies and practices. MCoS committee members saw Dr Hirani add great value and opportunities to connect broadly with community organizations.
