We are re-starting the journey of Ali & Dilshad Karim highlighting the next leg of their travels along the Silk Road that took place in 2019. These travels took them from Alichur to Yashikul and Bulunkul, a village of 46 families (98% Ismaili), which has the lowest recorded winter temperature of the the region at -63C. They had the privilege of touring the local school (which teaches K-Grade 4 only), before going onto the Wakhan Corridor on the Tajik side. Across the Panj river, which forms the Tajik-Afghan border, they saw caravans of donkeys and horses, similar to those that used to ply along the Silk Roads over 700 yrs ago, along with caravanserais. The video below at the Panj River is of an actual caravan in Afghanistan, reminiscent of the Silk Road caravans. These people were most likely Ismailis.
