Speaking exclusively to Forbes Online, the Secretary-General for the Global Center for Pluralism, Meredith Preston McGhie explains why the work of the Center and the awards are more important today than ever before. “I think that one of the benefits and challenges of pluralism as a concept is that it is action-oriented, encompassing how we positively respond to diversity in all of our different societies.” When deciphering what diversity means at a practical level we often get tangled up in the definitions of the different categories. The ambiguity can cause a substantial stumbling block for progress; as McGhie explains, “that broadness means that for some people, pluralism can feel like it’s maybe just out of reach because it has such a broad set of definitions.”
