A Cancer Shop: One Stop Shop for Everything a Cancer Fighter Needs to Own their Treatment

Cancershop

Sarah Laiwala, a former tech executive, and Dr. Abida Taher, a nuclear radiologist, teamed up and launched A Cancer Shop (www.acancershop.com) earlier this month of November. In collaboration with experienced oncologists, dentists, nurses, and patients, Sarah and Abida have curated hundreds of products to help cancer fighters power through their treatment plan.

A Cancer Shop exists with the mission of bringing products to those who have a diagnosis of cancer, and experience side effects from the chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. The most common side effects people experience when undergoing cancer treatment, and even months after, include: fatigue, hair loss, anemia, gastrointestinal problems (like nausea or changes in bowel habits), pain, infection, and emotional distress. Previously, to treat these side effects, patients and caregivers spent countless hours googling, scheduling time with nurse navigators, attending cancer meetups, and reading blogs and discussion forums. After hours of research, patients and caregivers made buying decisions to endure and continue their treatment.

Now, with A Cancer Shop, patients and caregivers can find what they need in minutes, with recommended usage descriptions that can be used to have informed discussions with their oncology providers. As an example, if a cancer patient is having difficulty sleeping, they can take melatonin one hour before bedtime to support sleeping.
