Gilgit- March 08, 2018 With the collaboration of GB-Women Development Department, Gilgit Serena Hotel organized an event to celebrate the International Women’s Day-2018 at Gilgit Serena Hotel.

Ms. Sobia Muqaddam, Minister Social Welfare/Population welfare/Women development, Youth Affairs and Human rights of Gilgit-Baltistan was the Chief Guest of the day,

Event started with the recitation of the Holy Qu’ran and performance by the students of local School/Colleges and Girls guides (which was highly appreciated) followed by a presentation and documentary by Women Development Directorate on GB women empowerment. Skits and speeches were also presented by Degree College & Girl Guide which enthralled the audience throughout.

Mr. Asim Nawaz Taiwana Secretary Women Development briefed audience about objectives of Women Day celebration and highlighted that women empowerment is key to development of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Charter of demand was presented by Ms. Yasmeen Karim Program Manager, Gender and development AKRSP which had been planned out was also presented to the government officials on which Minister Ms. Sobia Muqaddam said that soon she will be raising this issue in the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly for implementation.

More than 70 women entrepreneurs displayed their products at handicraft stalls which included KARIGHAR a vocational center part of CSR initiative of Serena Hotels, designed to empower local women also displayed their products and the minister appreciated their efforts by Serena Hotel.

The event was concluded with the note of thank by Ms. Sarwat Majeed GM-North Serena Hotels.

  1. To see so many women today in top positions everywhere and about time for them to speak up against harassment and am profusely hoping many more will speak up and be heard. We have the power to match the male gender and i urge them to speak up and be heard.
