On October 2, 2017 Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov received a delegation of the Aga Khan Foundation led by Shafik Sachedina, personal representative of the spiritual leader of the Nizari Ismailis Prince Karim Aga Khan IV.
The discussion focused on the current situation in the Middle East with an emphasis on the developments in Syria and Afghanistan. Shafik Sachedina praised Russia’s consistent and principled position in favour of quickly and peacefully resolving conflicts in the region and waging an uncompromising fight against terrorism and extremism. While discussing problems related to Syria, the emphasis was on the importance of establishing a constructive negotiating process between the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the opposition in order to promote a political solution to the Syrian crisis in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
