One Ocean Forum  is an event conceived by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda to commemorate 50 years of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and is a legacy project for the club, giving back in a meaningful and tangible way by launching an international dialogue on marine preservation and environment protection program.

“It is our responsibility to reduce the environmental pollution, in order to recreate the harmony between mankind and nature. The yacht clubs, whose ties with the sea are essential, must feel the duty to support such projects as the One Ocean Forum.

… These two days will be a concrete and strong response to the problem of the pollution of the ocean.”

– His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan,

President of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda

“Experts tell us that we have reached the point of no return, and that at the same time we can make a real difference by adopting a responsible approach and sustainable actions. We need to make our best to leave the ocean, as we have known it, to our future generations.

… We will do everything we can to hear the help request coming from our planet.”

– Princess Zahra Aga Khan

President of the Board of Directors, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda

The program is designed to address issues of global importance related to problems affecting the marine and coastal ecosystem. Conceived with the goal of promoting a feeling of ‘environmental culture’, especially among young people, this independent NGO aims to become the driving force for local and international initiatives, engaging with stakeholders from every social background as well as developing into a platform that promotes best practice.

The aim is to launch an international dialogue on ocean sustainability, creating a network of “intelligence” and identifying best practices in order to raise awareness about the issues affecting the marine ecosystem.

The forum is based on the partnership between the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and the Sda Bocconi Sustainability Lab and numerous prestigious sponsors: The British Virgin Islands, Ministry of the Environment, City of Milan, Sardinia Autonomous Region, CONI, SYBAss , Nautica Italiana, UCINA, Nautical Confindustria, Nautical Boat Show in Genoa and Velico Center in Caprera.
