“Aga Khan’s work is underpinned by an emphasis on Islam as a spiritual faith which cherishes the role of the intellect, teaches compassion and tolerance, and upholds the dignity of humankind.”
– Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali,
Foreign Minister of Bangladesh

Dhaka, July 27, 2017
Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali attended the Diamond Jubilee celebrations commemorating 60 years of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan’s Imamat and lauded His Highness the Aga Khan’s six decades of continued support and investments in improving the quality of life of millions of people in Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister Ali said like his grandfather [His Highness the Aga Khan III], His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV focused on efforts concerning not only the well-being of his own community but also the wider Muslims as well.
Minister Ali also praised the role of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Bangladesh and said the network is committed to enhancing its investments in the education sector with the establishment of the Aga Khan Academy (AKA) Dhaka which is to be located on approximately 20 acres of Network-owned land in Bashundhara. The academy will be comprised of world-class facilities and become part of an integrated network of 18 such academies being built globally.
AKDN has been present for over six decades in Bangladesh in sectors such as jute production, early childhood development, primary and pre-tertiary education, rural development and financial services.
“The jubilees serve as important milestones for Aga Khan and members of his community, to recognise the friendship and longstanding support of leaders of state, governments, and other partners in the work of the Imamat, and to lay the foundation for future initiatives which are guided by the social ethic of concern for those most vulnerable in society”.
