The 7th annual Indian Summer Festival runs from July 6-15, 2017 with more diverse and distinct voices than ever before; promises to be most culturally stimulating 10 days of the summer!
2017 FESTIVAL THEME: Tales of War & Peace
Spend an evening with one of Canada’s most renowned writers – MG Vassanji – as he takes us on a journey between the worlds of his rich body of work.
MG Vassanji’s work has focused on liminal states, where his characters are players in the ‘battlefield of history’. Vassanji’s many award-winning novels bring alive the angst faced being in a constant state of exile. From East Africa to Toronto, storied pasts to imagined future states, Vassanji’s work constantly questions, subverts and upturns the world as we know it.
Vassanji is the first person to win the prestigious Giller Prize twice, as well as a Commonwealth Prize and a Governor General’s award.
Join celebrated sitarist Mohamed Assani and tabla player Amarjeet Singh in the as they perform a classical Hindustani morning raga.
It is believed that the Raga can only appear at the height of its melodic beauty if played at the right time of day – and as this unique concert takes place in the morning, this is a rare opportunity to hear this traditional Indian music at it’s best.
This musical feast will be followed by a sumptuous breakfast for all guests in the stunning garden courtyard of the Ismaili Centre.
