Ideas of diversity and pluralism can seem abstract and philosophical. In reality, pluralism could guide our behaviour everyday whether at home, at the office, in the classroom or the coffee shop. Dr. Bashir Jiwani will offer a definition of pluralism, explain how this value is relevant everyday, and highlight the skills required to live up to this ideal.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Bashir Jiwani is Ethicist and Director for Fraser Health Ethics Services, whose mandate includes clinical and organizational ethics and diversity services. Bashir is an experienced speaker, having done hundreds of workshops and presentations across the country and internationally. He speaks on issues in ethics and health ethics both for academic audiences and to health care administrators, providers, patients and the lay public.
His work includes clinical ethics consultation, ethics-based organizational policy analysis, ethics and diversity infrastructure development and support, training in ethics and diversity competency, and overseeing the provision of language services. He has a Doctorate from the University of Alberta’s Public Health Sciences department and a Master’s degree in Applied Ethics, specializing in Bioethics, from the University of British Columbia. He is a member of the Canadian Blood Services’ Organ Donation and Transplantation Expert Advisory Committee and Bioethics Advisory Committee, the Canadian College of Health Leaders Ethics Council, The Drug Benefit Council of British Columbia and the Provincial Forum for Clinical Ethics Support and Coordination in BC.
