Aga Khan Foundation Stories: Hospital in Bamyan, Afghanistan

Aga Khan Foundation Stories: Hospital in Bamyan, AfghanistanIn Bamyan Province, one in 10 children will die before their fifth birthday. Many of these deaths can be prevented with better health care and awareness.

The new hospital – supported by Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) – will offer outpatient and rehabilitation facilities, improved paediatric and OB/GYN services for mothers and newborns, and a solar power system to optimize power during the day.

The facility also means new economic opportunity for the region, including training for nurses and midwives. And health outreach programs will educate families about nutrition and hygiene.

This is a hospital that Canadians helped build.

This story is one of many that demonstrate how Canadians are making a profound impact, by helping people improve their communities and lives.
