Let’s eliminate Hepatitis – World Hepatitis Day at AKUH
Karachi, July 27, 2016: The Aga Khan University Hospital is organising a public health awareness session on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day to help in eliminating hepatitis which is fully preventable and treatable disease.
Viral hepatitis – known as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E – affects millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic liver disease. Around the world 400 million people are infected with hepatitis B and C, more than 10 times the number of people living with HIV.
Pakistan alone has more than 13 million hepatitis sufferers, many of whom are unaware that they are carriers of the deadly virus.
On World Hepatitis Day, health professionals will urge policy-makers, health workers and the public that viral hepatitis can be prevented and it’s up to all of us to act timely.
