Farhann Cachra running London Marathon for Aga Khan Foundation UK

Farhann Cachra running London Marathon for Aga Khan Foundation UKAfter years of chat, hype and trepidation, I am challenging myself to run the London Marathon – a distance I have never run before and a level of nipple rash to which I am completely unaccustomed.

The cause I am running for is global poverty and specifically for the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), which provides long-term solutions to end poverty in the world’s poorest areas.

@AKF is all about building reliable institutions that create an active civil society to improve the quality of life of all regardless of gender, origin or religion.

In the last 5 years, AKF has

  • Worked with 400,000 mothers to improve infant and young child feeding practices across rural India.
  • Helped 110,000 Tanzanian rice and sesame producers to increase their incomes.
  • Educated over 83,000 girls, trained 5,000 teachers and built 760 classrooms across 14 provinces in Afghanistan.

You can see other examples areas of sustainable change in education, health, civil society and disaster prevention here
