The previous Harper Government had made changes to the Canadian Citizenship Act which made it “harder to get, easier to lose”. Bill C-24 was criticized for extending qualifying times, harder exam rules, and stripping dual nationals of citizenship for public interest reasons.
The new Trudeau Government has proposed a variety of changes to soften the harshest aspects of Bill C-24.
