Gouvieux, France, 13 May 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam has expressed shock and sadness in the wake of an attack on a bus carrying members of the Ismaili community on their way to work in Karachi, Pakistan that left 43 people dead.
“This attack represents a senseless act of violence against a peaceful community,” said Mawlana Hazar Imam. “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families of those killed and wounded in the attack.”
Mawlana Hazar Imam noted that the Ismailis are a peaceful global community living in harmony with other religious and ethnic groups in many countries across the world, including in the Muslim world.
The Ismaili leaders in Pakistan are currently involved in an emergency operation trying to help the survivors of the attack. Initial reports said unidentified gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying more than 50 members of the Ismaili community in Karachi’s Safora Chowrangi area on Wednesday, 13 May. There were 16 women and 27 men among those killed.
It was not immediately clear what the perpetrators’ motives were. They may have been political or sectarian in nature.

Very sad. Our prayers are with those killed and wounded and their families. These criminals must be hunted and punished. Law enforcement in Pakistan must be strengthened. Such incidents bring Pakistan down in the eyes of the world.

We the ismaili Muslims ate very peaceful, non violence, and quite people. People who are aware of who we are respect us, admire us, and learn who the true Muslims are, and try to follow the ethical, moral, honest life style we present to the society and to the world. Please do not exclude us as Muslims, do not depare us, and lastly but importantly do not Haye us. We welcome any one who would like to know the heritage, culture, rights and retuels of our being Ismailism. Please let’s unite and let us show the world who we Muslims are, and set the example. Thank you very much. May Allah bless all of the Muslim umma, Ameen.

The Ismaili Community has suffered a loss that can’t be weighed. We hope and pray that the Leaders of Pakistan will embark on a sustainable plan to eradicate extremisim and religious intolerance for once and all–and reign in the True Ideals of Progressive Muslim State, as it was envisioned by its founder, Quaid-E Azam Mohamed Ali Jinnah.
