Saif Hassan is a seventeen-year-old freshman at Houston Baptist University.
This past weekend, Saif completed the MS 150 for the first time as a member of Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board team. The BP MS150 is a two-day bike ride that goes from Houston to Austin, Texas, in an attempt to raise money for those afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis. The BP MS150 typically takes a bicyclist two days to cycle 170-180 miles. This year, due to severe weather, they were only able to ride for one day and bike approximately seventy miles.
Even though Saif was not able to ride the original 170-mile route, yet it was one of the best experiences of his life. Not to mention, his teammates and himself raised $18,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research.
The BP MS150 is physically exhausting, and raising the money is no simple task; even so, his heart became warm, and he truly understood the joy of helping others, when he met many people that suffered from this vicious disease. That day in Austin Saif felt like Rabindranath Tagore, when he said: “I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.” In all, Saif is extremely excited for next year’s ride!
Ismailimail congratulates Saif Hassan for undertaking such an excellent journey of discovering himself through service to humanity.
