“In whatever we do, at whatever level, we have always been reliant upon volunteers … especially in today’s difficult circumstances, we must never lose sight of nor undervalue the secret of our Aga Khan Network’s success, the element which underpins its professionalism.
The heart and lifeblood of our network [are] the voluntary workers; the Boards, the Committees, the volunteers – young and old – who contribute their time and efforts.”
– Chancellor, His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, 49th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims

On Tuesday November 25, the Aga Khan University family gathered to honour 87 of its current volunteers while paying tribute to those who have so admirably served since the inception of the volunteer programme in 1987.
Of the 87 volunteers receiving special mention:
- 27 have served for 5,000 hours;
- 14 have given 10,000 hours of their time; and
- 1 volunteer who has given an awe-inspiring 20,000 hours of service to the University.
Included in the 87 were 43 Time Knowledge Nazrana (TKN) volunteers who have completed their service at AKU as well as 2 overseas volunteers currently at the University.
Since the inception of the TKN programme 96 overseas and 69 local TKN volunteers have contributed their expertise in fields ranging from nursing to architecture, information technology to supply chain management, English language instruction to microbiology to mention a few.
