In fact, over 70 percent of the products in the gift shop are unique and exclusive to the Aga Khan Museum.
Crafted from Italian silk, the AKM ties are inspired by manuscripts within the museum’s permanent collection and feature themes of daily court life and imagery from fables that are hundreds of years old. All ties are custom designed and exclusively produced for the Aga Khan Museum. $89, $80.10 for members.
Sari Scarves, which are made using repurposed saris and are handcrafted by women in Kashmir, India who lost their husbands to war. $59, $53.10 for members.
Bamiyan Peace Bears, which are hand embroidered in Afghanistan. The Bamiyan Peace Bear Project aims to rejuvenate the cultural traditions of Afghani women, such as carpet weaving and embroidery, that were disrupted by war. The purchase of one bear provides income for five women. $119, $107.10 for members.
The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m.– 6 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
