World of Khusrau

The objective of the cultural revival programme under the AKTC’s Nizamuddin Urban Renewal Initiative is to develop the area into one of the historic and cultural centres of Delhi by sensitively exploiting the rich cultural assets of the area, which in turn, will spark its socio-economic development and provide sustainability for the physical upkeep and uplifting of the traditional substance of Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti. Nizamuddin area has also a rich legacy of Sufi traditions including the music and poetry associated with the 13th century Sufi Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and his disciple, the legendary poet-composer Hazrat Amir Khusrau ‘Dehalvi’.
Aalam-e-Khusrau, a pivotal component of Hazrat Nizamuddin Urban Renewal Initiative pioneered by Aga Khan Trust for Culture with support from the Ford Foundation and in partnership with Archaeological Survey of India, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Central Public Works Department, has successfully completed several projects since September 2009. Through research, documentation, audio visual exhibition and scholarship projects, it hopes to bring forth a deeper and richer understanding of the legacy and relevance of Khusrau in this day and age. At the same time, the projects objectives are to develop diverse platforms for the works of Amir Khusrau to be assimilated as the cultural heritage of the region, in general, and Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti in particular.
